Regional Overview

Chesapeake Science & Security Corridor offers a wide variety of learning opportunities for students of all ages and abilities. CSSC public school districts generally perform in the top quartile among the 24 Maryland school systems. You'll find school construction and renovation a priority in growing areas where schools serve as community epicenters. The Science and Math Academy at Aberdeen High School, Harford County will graduate its first class in 2008; Chesapeake High School has a new science and technology program in Baltimore County; Joppatowne High School, Harford County launched its Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Program this fall. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, or STEM programs have gained particular focus; Cecil County launched its first countywide STEM Academy with the 2007-08 school year.

The Baltimore area also boasts some of the nation's top performing high schools. The Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, known to Baltimore City residents as simply "Poly," is ranked consistently as one of the top high schools in the country. It is known for its engineering preparatory program and has received numerous recognitions for its innovative "Ingenuity project," which seeks to educate students to achieve nationally in math and science. In addition to public schools, a wide variety of charter schools, some of the nation's oldest private schools and options for home schooling are available to those who choose to call the Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor home.
